Black Leopards defender Edwin Gyimah goes AWOL ahead of crucial play-offs

Published on: 09 September 2020

Black Leopards defender Edwin Gyimah has fallen out with the club's top brass after leaving the club without permission ahead of the battle for the Premier Soccer League promotion and relegation play-offs.

It's unclear what sparked the latest turn of event but the 29-year-old packed his luggage after his side's 3-0 defeat to champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the weekend.

The Lidoda Duvha will now be without the Ghanaian in central midfield as they take on Ajax Cape Town in the first match of the play-offs on Wednesday.

“He is not here with us (at bio-bubble) but we don’t know where he is and how he got out,” said Leopards' Tshifhiwa “Chief” Thidiela.

"When contacted for a comment, the 29-year-old confirmed to this publication that he is no longer part of Leopards, but refused to comment further as he was not in a good space," added FarPost.

He has since not made any contact.

During the match against Sundowns, he requested to be replaced and his wish was granted.

Gyimah didn't leave with the team bus and with his teammates as he was picked up by a white car outside of the stadium.

GHANAsoccernet.com understands he forced his way into the hotel to fetch his belongings and also pushed security personnel to escape.

Whatever prompted the former Black Stars to leave, with four promotion matches remaining is unclear.

Leopards will take on Ajax Cape Town in their first match of the promotion play-offs on Wednesday.
