Black Maidens coach Augustine Adotey admits absence of eight players could affect team's chances ahead of World Cup

Ghana's U17 female team coach Augustine Evans Adotey fears the absence of eight of his key players could affect the team's chances of excelling on the global stage.

Eight key players failed the mandatory MRI test, forcing the Medeama coach to ring changes in his squad.

The Black Maidens have arrived in Jordan ahead of the FIFA World Cup which starts on September 30.

And coach Augustine Adotey admits the absence of the players is a hammer blow.

“We are fully prepared except that the time was too short and the problem I encountered was FIFA ruling out 8 of my girls," he said

He added: “You know talking of this age limit that FIFA came up with, that has affected 8 of my girls so I had to inject few players into certain positions which I’m trying to blend them with the old ones. Currently, we are not up to the standard required but trust the girls, we will do our best for Ghana.”

“It is all about getting yourself ready for the tournament. It is too early to predict as I am speaking now but my first target is to ensure that we stay away from defeat against Japan – a win is okay for me or a draw is okay for me but at the tail end, I want to get to the second round. That is my first target.”

The Black Maidens have lined up a friendly against Cameroon today (Friday).
