Black Maidens deserve African Women's Team of the Year award - Dramani

Coach Mas-Ud Dramani believes Ghana’s U17 team is the most deserving candidate to win the African Women’s National Team of the Year award.

The Black Maidens are competing for the prestigious accolade alongside Equatorial Guinea’s senior national team and Nigeria’s U-20 side at the Glo-CAF awards to be held in Accra on Thursday.

The Asante Kotoko coach led the side to a historic bronze medal feat at the U-20 Women’s World Cup back in October in Azerbaijan.

The Black Maidens’ feat brought pride and honour to not only Ghana but the whole African continent as they emerged the first side to make it that far in the competition.

This according to Dramani should make Ghana the clear favourites for the award which will be handed out on Thursday at the State Banquet Hall in Accra.

“I am confident that at the end of the night the Black Maidens will emerge winners as African Female team of the year,” he said.

“I will be very surprised if this doesn’t happen because the Black Maidens did not only carry the Ghana flag at the World Cup in Azerbaijan, but also the whole of Africa and they excelled.

“So for me, the only deserving candidate for this award has to be the Black Maidens.”

The CAF awards gala on Thursday will also see the crowning of the King of African football in the flagship award of the night.
