Black Meteors to rely on foreign based players for AFCON U-23 qualifiers- Maxwell Konadu

Deputy coach of the Black Meteors Maxwell Konadu admits the technical team would have to depend on foreign players for the Africa U-23 championship qualifiers against Togo this month.

Following the team's 3-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko in a friendly on Sunday, the former Wa All Stars coach revealed the team has been through many challenges due to the lack of domestic football.

The Black Meteors will be host their Togolese counterparts on Sunday in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium before the return leg in Lome.

"We are on preparations for the game against Togo but we are facing a bit of challenges because the preparations have delayed," Konadu told Fox FM.

"We just have to manage our call ups and call most of the players who are playing abroad since our local players have not been playing active football for about six months now", the former Kotoko SC gaffer told Fox FM.

Meanwhile, GHANASoccernet.com has gathered former WAFA midfielder Majeed Ashimeru, who plays for Saint Gallen in Switzerland will be invited to the squad.

Other names on the list are Isaac Twum of IK Start, former Black Satellites captain Kingsley Fobi, Nuhu Musah of St. Gallen and Gideon Mensah of FC Liefring.

The Black Meteors team has moved from their training camp of Prampram to Accra, and are currently training at the El Wak Stadium.
