SAS Finance Group has notified the Ghana Football Association about the availability of investment cheques for the 21 players of the Black Satellites' 2009 U-20 World Cup-winning team.
This follows the maturity of a 15-year investment made on behalf of the players by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which reached its due date on January 4, 2025.
A total of GHc210,000 was invested in 2009, with each player receiving GHc10,000. SAS confirmed that players can collect their cheques from the SAS office in Accra starting January 8, 2025.
To do so, players must present a valid Ghana Card for identification. If unable to collect in person, players can authorize a third party to collect their cheque with a notarized Power of Attorney.
The SAS office is located on the 14th floor of the World Trade Centre, Independence Avenue, Accra. In addition to the investment, each player received annual insurance coverage to assist with life and health-related expenses.
The 2009 U-20 World Cup victory remains a historic achievement for Ghana, marking the nation’s first and only U-20 World Cup title. The Black Satellites triumphed over Brazil in a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw following extra time.
The list of players entitled to the investment includes Daniel Agyei, Samuel Inkoom, Andre Ayew, and others.
