Black Satellites head coach, Desmond Ofei, has disclosed that he had as many as eight players selected from Division Two League clubs for the 2024 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship in Togo.
During an exclusive interview with ghanafa.org, Coach Ofei revealed the significance of these players in the context of the national team's aspirations.
"I want to thank the Division Two League Clubs for their developmental drive. Eight of my players for the recently concluded U20 WAFU B U20 championship came from the Second Division," he stated, highlighting the untapped potential that exists within these leagues.
The coach's pride in these young athletes is palpable as he reflects on their journey.
"To be able to put together Division Two players and compete at the level they did is extremely commendable and heartwarming," he noted.
This sentiment underscores the importance of grassroots football in nurturing talent that can compete on international stages.
With the help of the eight Division Two League players, the Black Satellites finished second at the WAFU Championship and have qualified for next year’s U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
