Black Stars call up is an icing on the cake for what has been an exciting year- Bayern striker Kwasi Wreidt

Bayern Munich striker Kwasi Okyere Wreidt has revealed how "speechless" he was when he heard of his call up into the senior national team of Ghana and insists that is an "icing on the cake" for an amazing season. 

The Hamburg born striker of Ghanaian parentage earned a call up to the Black Stars following his impressive performances with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The 23 year old who joined the German Champions from VfL Osnabrück- a third tier club where he score 12 goals from 39 appearances- has tallied 19 goals in 27 appearances for the Bayern reserve team.

Meanwhile, with Coach Kwesi Appiah looking to build a new young team since his reappointment, he gave the prolific striker a call up and Kwasi Wreidt shares his excitement on represent the country of his parents.

"At first I was speechless," Wriedt told German tabloid Bild. "Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah got in touch to tell me about his plan. Ghana need a new approach with young players. I'm a part of that.

"I'm delighted to be able to play for the country of my parents' birth. I'll be making my family and friends proud. It's the icing on the cake on what's been a really exciting year."

Kwasi Wreidt who previously played for SC Ham, Saint Pauli and LSK Hansa made another interesting revelations when he pointed out that on the day he made his senior debut for Bayern he sent his Jersey as a gift to his mum.

Wreidt played his first senior game for Bayern against RB Liepzig in the German Cup where he nearly scored after his header graced the cross bar.

"I give the [jersey] to my mother because she has supported me from day one," the striker, born to Ghanaian parents, said. "She is an important person in my life, if not the most important. I had already promised her that I would send her the jersey if I made my first-team debut."

Th young forward will make his national team debut in the friendlies against Japan and Iceland.
