Black Stars coach CK Akonnor needs another assistant - Laryea Kingston

Former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston wants the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint another assistant coach for Charles Akonnor.

The Black Stars coach has one assistant coach, David Duncan but Laryea believes the magnitude of job cannot be done by the two and there is a need for a third coach.

“One assistant is not enough. We call them shadow coaches and they need to be involved in planning the training sessions. For instance, when you are building up from the back, the secondary focus is the players who will be pressing forward.

The third coach will focus on runs in the box. One coach cannot focus on all these areas. So we need a broad view of the teams’ play,” Laryea, who now coaches Right to Dream U-18 team, explained on Joy FM.

Akonnor has been in charge for five months since he replaced Kwasi Appiah in January. He has been tasked to win 2021 AFCON and qualify for the World Cup in 2022.
