Black Stars end 2011 in 29th place in Fifa ranking

The Black Stars managed to finish the year in 29th place in the latest Fifa ranking released on Wednesday.

Ghana's unbeaten run in the qualifiers and two defeats in international friendlies against South Korea and Brazil ensured the four-time champions are among the top 30 national teams in the world.

However, the Black Stars are the continent's second ranked nation behind Ivory Coast who are favourites for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Algeria and Egypt are in third and fourth places respectively.

World champions Spain still leads the the overall standing followed by the Netherlands and Germany in third position.

As the top team at year-end, Spain are the Team of the Year.

FIFA took into consideration 57 new 'A' international matches in the current edition of the ranking of which 51 were friendly matches and the remaining six were OFC World Cup qualification matches.

In total, 1,046 matches were taken into account over the course of the year.
