Black Stars forward Christian Atsu receives Cyrille Regis Players Award for philanthropic works

Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu was awarded the Cyril Regis Player Award for 2019 following his philanthropic works in Ghana and abroad. 

The award is given in honour of former England forward Cyril Regis who died last year. Cyril Regis was known for setting out foundations across England to help the less privileged.

Atsu has been involved in several charity works including partnering Crime Check Foundation in Ghana to help free prison inmates who were wrongly sentenced.

The 27-year was pleased to receive the award and is poised to do more for the less privileged in society.

He posted on Twitter after receiving the award," I feel very honoured to receive this Cyrille Regis Players Award from for my work with @armsaroundthechild . Thanks to everyone involved for your continued support and for recognising the work we are all trying to do in Ghana."

Atsu is in Ghana for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Ghana and Kenya as well as the international friendly against Mauritania.
