Ghana defender John Boye believes the death of Anthony Annan's mother has brought about a new sense of inspiration to the Black Stars.

The Vitesse Arnhem midfielder received the sad news of his mother's demise on Thursday.

Ghana must beat Tunisia to confirm their tournament favourites tag on Sunday in the quarter-final clash of the Nations Cup.

There are concerns that the news could dampen the spirit of the team ahead of the crucial clash.

However, center-back John Boye, who has been a revelation in Ghana's campaign, believes that will spur them on.

"We are here to win the Cup. Its sad though but we won't allow it to drain us," the Rennes player told GHANAsoccernet.com.

"It is rather going to inspire us and urge on to fight and deliver the trophy. We remain very united."

Annan has started in all three Ghana games but Derek Boateng could step in his shoes if he is unable to develop a strong mental ability before the match day.

CAF has granted the Ghana Football Association permission to wear black armbands in their next them.
