Black Stars stand out in Africa's 2014 World Cup this weekend

Ghana produced the most impressive result in Africa's 2014 World Cup qualifiers this weekend after their 7-0 win over Lesotho.

Twenty matches were played across Africa from Friday and the Black Stars win over Lesotho in Group D stands out.

A brace each from Jordan Ayew, Dominic Adiyiah and goals from Sulley Muntari, Christian Atsu and Jerry Akaminko helped Ghana to the emphatic victory in Kumasi on Friday.

The closest a country came to the Black Stars was Algeria's 4-0 win over Rwanda in Algiers while there was 3-1 wins for Senegal and Tunisia who beat Liberia and Equatorial Guinea respectively.

Africa Cup of Nations co-hosts Equatorial Guinea took a surprise lead in Tunisia on Saturday before going down 3-1 to a side bidding to reach its fifth World Cup tournament.

While the Black Stars strolled to the comfortable win other continental giants struggled with Nigeria needing a late goal to beat Namibia 1-0 at home.

New African champions Zambia suffered defeat in their first competitive match since winning this year's Nations Cup.

The Chipolopolo suffered in the heat of Khartoum where Sudan won 2-0. Muhanad Tahir opened the scoring and Seifeddin Ali doubled their advantage to give Sudan a shock result.

South Africa left it late to save themselves from a shock defeat by Ethiopia on Sunday as qualifying continued for the 2014 World Cup.

With only 13 minutes of the game remaining, Katlego Mphela scored an equaliser to give Bafana Bafana a point.

On Saturday, Central African Republic recorded their first win in World Cup qualifying when beating Botswana 2-0 in Bangui.

Just five days after taking charge, new Ivory Coast Sabri Lamouchi led his new side to a 2-0 win over Tanzania in Abidjan.

Bidding for a third World Cup in a row, the Ivorians are two points clear in the group - after The Gambia and Morocco played out a 1-1 draw in Banjul.

Despite home advantage, Burkina Faso could only draw 0-0 with Congo in Ouagadougou.

Niger and Gabon fared no better on Sunday in Niamey, also drawing 0-0 .
