Black Stars technical team urged to consider Mohammed Kudus for false nine role

Former Ghana assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko has urged the Black Stars technical team to consider using Mohammed Kudus as a false nine.

So far in the 2022/23 season, the midfielder has thrived in that role for Ajax, scoring five goals on 10 shots.

With the Black Stars' striking option looking far from convincing despite the addition of Inaki Williams, Tanko, a former Ghana player, has asked Otto Addo to use Kudus in attack.

“Kudus is a very talented player. He can play in many positions. If you pair him with a holding midfielder, he can play as a no 8 and a striker,” he told Joy Sports.

“The technical team has a plan so let’s hope that all the boys stay fit so the technical team will have options to select from. [False 9] It’s one of the options the technical team can look at.”

Ghana will play Brazil and Nicaragua in international friendlies this month as part of preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar.
