Blackpool set to maintain Kingson as boss is impressed

Blackpool goalkeeper Richard Kingson looks set to get the permanent starting place for English side after the club’s coach heaped praise on his performances in the Premier League.

The Ghanaian shot stopper made his fourth successive appearance for the club on Saturday and excelled as they drew 2-2 with Bolton.

Kingson arrived in England four years ago to play but he has spent most of the time on the bench of Birmingham and Wigan before joining Blackpool on a free transfer in August.

He was even described by Birmingham David Sullivan as a ‘waste of space’ when he was released by the club two years ago and did not start a game for Wigan last year.

But Kingson has risen above that at Blackpool after profiting from the injury to Matt Gilks who was the regular goalkeeper for the club.

The impressive performances Kingson has put in since Gilks’ injury has left coach Ian Hollaway absolutely delighted.

"Watching Richard play so far, he has done a great job," explained Holloway.

"It looks as though he has had the shirt all his life - I'm delighted for him."

Kingson is convinced his performances could earn him the permanent starting place.

"Firstly, I wish Matthew a speedy recovery as we are all a family here," Kingson, 32, said.

"But it's perhaps the time for me to play and if I do well, maybe I'll become number one."
