Derek Boateng reveals the Black Stars players were in fear their hard work against Lesotho will have been undone by the stadium black out.
Friday's opening 2014 World Cup qualifier played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi had to be suspended for well over an hour due to a fault in the flood lightening system.
The lights failed to come on when required early in the second half at a point the Black Stars were up by 4-0 necessitating its suspension by Senegal referee Badara Diatta.
And as the minutes kept wearing off with the fault still pending crept in an uncertainty as to whether the match will be called off to be replayed in its entirety the following day as per Fifa regulations.
This meant the Black Stars' commanding 4-0 lead at the point would have been rendered null and void if the game had been indeed canceled by the referee and Boateng says the thought of their hard work being discounted due to the unfortunate development was weighing heavily on the players' conscience.
"Yes we were afraid the game will be called off because we really put in our all up until that time," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
"It meant we had to play the game all over again and this is not easy playing against the same side within a short time.
"They had seen our game and therefore it was going to be difficult playing them again."
The match however resumed after the lights came back on and Boateng adds it was a massive relieve to the team.
"We were so happy when we heard the lights were back on and that the match will continue.
"And it went well for us because we got some more goals so we are very thankful our people and the supporters kept supporting the team even through the problems."
Ghana now leads Group D on superior goal difference over Sudan ahead of their second group game against African champions, Zambia on Saturday.
