Bolt: Mariners will judge me on trial outing

Usain Bolt is preparing for Friday's pre-season game for Central Coast Mariners to be a pivotal audition.

The retired athletics great is expected to start for the first time for Mike Mulvey's side in a trial game against a select Macarthur South West United team.

He was used as a winger during a brief trial appearance in late August, but has indicated Mulvey will play him in the forward line this time.

Having been with the Gosford club since August on a trial that he hopes will lead to a professional contract, Bolt is looking forward to his big chance.

"This is going to be a big game. I think it will determine if the club makes up its mind on what to do with my career," he said.

"I've just got to go out there and play and see what I need to do or if I should continue if not. I'm just pushing myself, I think I've put in a lot of work, now it's just to go out there and execute."

Mulvey, who coached Brisbane Roar to an A-League championship, has taken charge of the Mariners after they finished bottom of the table last season.

He has told Bolt he will be patient with him as the 32-year-old looks to translate his track speed to the football pitch.

The Jamaican says the coach has told him he will play a more experienced team this time than in his first outing off the bench.

"There's a few first-team boys in the team ... so I'll get different service, better service, because they're more seasoned and more mature," he added. "So he [Mulvey] just told me to make sure I'm focused and push myself, and I'll just take the chances when I get them."

Central Coast are 18/1 to win the Grand Final.
