Bonucci: Juventus had to beat Inter

Published on: 29 February 2016

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci emphasised the importance of victory following his team’s 2-0 win over Inter on Sunday evening.

The 28-year-old broke the deadlock with a stunning 47th minute volley, setting the Bianconeri on the path to victory, which the Italian conceded did not involve too much thought.

“When I saw the the ball, I just tried to hit it as hard as possible,” Bonucci told Mediaset Premium.

“I was lucky to keep it low and to beat [Samir] Handanovic.

“We just had to win today, regardless of Inter.

“Two draws would have ben too many in a row and we had to return to success.”

The win comes among a busy run of fixtures which will see Juventus play four matches in just 12 days, finishing with Wednesday’s second-leg Coppa Italia tie, up against the Nerazzurri once again.

However the former Bari man would not use the fixture congestion as an excuse and was already looking forward to advancing to the final.

“The wins or draws does not mean anything today,” Bonucci added

“We have to keep pedalling now and immediately look ahead to Wednesday.

“Although we won 3-0, they will start strong but we have to leave stronger than them.”
