Arsenal’s Thomas Partey is set to undergo an MRI scan to ascertain the extent of the injury to his Ribs.

In a blow to Arsenal’s midfield, Thomas Partey is set to undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of a rib injury sustained in Friday’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City.

The Ghana international, who had established himself as a vital player for the Gunners in their remarkable start to the 2022-23 campaign, was seen receiving treatment to his abdominal area before being replaced by Albert Sambi Lokonga at halftime.

Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed after the match that Partey could not continue due to the injury, saying, “He felt something and we didn’t want to take any risks, so he could not continue. He had some discomfort and it was getting worse and worse, so he could not continue.”

Partey’s injury is a second setback for Arsenal in the midfield, as Mohamed Elneny is reportedly at risk of missing the rest of the season with a knee problem. With only Granit Xhaka, Lokonga, and Under-21s captain Matt Smith as options, Arteta has confirmed that he wants to bring in a new midfield enforcer before the January transfer deadline on Tuesday.

According to reports, Arsenal has submitted a £60m bid for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo, although the Seagulls are reportedly holding out for £100m.

The Gunners will be hoping that the scan results on Partey’s injury are not serious and they can hold on to their midfield star.
