Bruno Fernandes: James Maddison confirms he learnt from Man Utd midfielder
Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has confessed that he watched Bruno Fernandes a lot during his first seasons at Manchester United.
Man United signed Fernandes from Sporting Libson three years ago and the Portuguese star made an instant impact that helped Manchester United finish 3rd in the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils finished 2nd in the league and that was partly because Bruno Fernandes maintained his consistency. The 28-year-old broke several records as a result of his red form, including breaking a 10-year record set up by Frank Lampard as the midfielder with the most goals [27] in all competitions in a single season when he scored his 28th goal against Liverpool two years ago.
It’s obvious many young midfielders look up to the Portugal international and James Maddison has also confirmed that he watched Fernandes during his first few months at the Theatre of Dreams to understand how he scores and assists during games.
“A few seasons ago Bruno Fernandes was playing very well for Manchester United and had incredible goalscoring and assisting stats. So I probably watched him a little closer at that time,” Maddison said.
“How does he score so many goals? What does he do that I don’t do? If that makes me a student of the game, then that’s what I am. I watch all the matches.”
Maddison and Fernandes will look to perform for their respective countries in the Qatar World Cup that will commence this weekend.
