Former Manchester United defender Daley Blind has explained the reason he believes the Netherlands can win the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Louis van Gaal has regularly said during press conferences that he came to Qatar to win the competition and claimed his players also share the same belief.

The Netherlands started off their campaign with a 2-0 win over Senegal but somewhat looked lost when they escaped with a 1-1 draw against Ecuador.

Despite the Dutchmen’s uncovincing performances in their first two games, Blind still believes his country can win the trophy because the World Cup favourites are not playing at their best.

Germany lost to Japan, Argentina were stunned by Saudi Arabia. Belgium lost 2-0 to Morocco while Portugal struggled out a 3-2 win over Ghana.

The best countries are have not played well so far in the competition and that’s what has made Daley Blind to believe the Netherlands have a chance of winning the trophy.

“The ambition is to win the World Cup,” Blind said. “We believe in this. You don’t need to tell us that it will be easy. During this World Cup you can see that many countries are not playing great.”

The Netherlands will finish their group stage with a game against Qatar and they are massively expected to get an easy win over the host nation.

A win over Qatar will see the Dutch side finish the group stage as the winners of Group with seven points after three games.
