Daniel Ricciardo: Drivers are experiencing dehydration due to the car’s weight saving

Daniel Riccardo has spoken about the lack of drinking at the hot Miami Grand Prix.

The McLaren driver has been struggling as the struggle to reduce car weight has become one of the hottest topics of 2022, with teams looking to save on everything.

Yes, the heat has played its part. It was difficult also because of the fact that the teams are fighting for every bit of mass. We can’t afford three litres of water. So we pour a little, and there’s not enough to drink. Naturally, you get dehydrated. And yes, the heat was serious. Such races, of course, turn out to be hard. Everybody has been working hard – the drivers, the mechanics, everybody has been affected by the heat,” said Daniel.

The Australian finished 13th in the Miami Grand Prix and is looking forward to making progress in Spain:

It’s hard to say but I really hope the race will be better. We were at a disadvantage and it was a bit like last season. The track [in Miami] is a bit like Zandvoort with the long corners, and there we were fighting for a single point. Something similar happened here: there was kind of speed, but we never managed to prove ourselves well. So, in Barcelona, it could be better. The track suited me better last season – I hope that means something.
