Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is reportedly looking to reunite with former player Matteo Guendouzi, with a bid to Marseille expected to be made.

Unai Emery, the manager of Aston Villa, is rumored to be eager to reunite with former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, as rumors indicate that the Premier League club is “likely” to make a bid to Marseille.

Guendouzi was acquired by Emery from French club Lorient for a cost of £8 million during his time as Arsenal manager. The Frenchman’s relationship with Mikel Arteta, who succeeded Emery as manager, deteriorated, and he ultimately had a falling-out with the team as a result of an altercation with Brighton’s Neal Maupay.

Since then, Guendouzi has played for Marseille, where he has excelled and been a major component in the team’s Champions League qualification. The midfielder has reportedly been identified as Emery’s top transfer priority for the January transfer window after the Villa manager unsuccessfully tried to sign him while in charge of Villarreal.

However, the Frenchman’s time in Marseille may not be long-lasting. The player isn’t up for sale this month, according to Marseille CEO Pablo Longoria, but it’s unclear whether Angers playmaker Azzedine Ounahi, who may serve as a replacement, will influence the club’s decision.
