Erik ten Hag expresses concern over ankle injury sustained by midfielder Christian Eriksen
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is facing an anxious wait over the fitness of key midfielder Christian Eriksen, who suffered an ankle injury in the team’s FA Cup fourth-round win over Reading on Saturday night.
“It’s always difficult to say in this moment so short after the game has finished,” Ten Hag began. “But it’s an ankle [problem]. We have to see what is the diagnosis, so it costs us a minimum of 24 hours before we know that and then I can say more.”
Eriksen, who has formed a strong partnership with Casemiro since joining United as a free agent in the summer, was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Reading’s Andy Carroll early in the second half and was substituted soon after.
Video footage captured by fans and shared on social media shows Eriksen leaving Old Trafford on crutches, raising concerns about the extent of his injury. Ten Hag was unable to offer any firm updates on the injury after the game, stating only that it was to Eriksen’s ankle.
The 30-year-old has been a key player for United this season, bringing balance to the team as a deep-play-maker and contributing seven assists in 19 Premier League games. With important matches against Leeds, Barcelona, and Liverpool coming up in the next few weeks, United staff and fans will be hoping for a swift recovery.
