Chelsea manager Graham Potter recently spoke about Ben Chilwell’s return to his best physical level during a post-match press conference.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has lauded the return of left-back Ben Chilwell to his peak physical condition following his recent injury struggles.

The former Leicester City man had been struggling to maintain his fitness earlier in the season but has since shown considerable improvement, much to the delight of the Chelsea boss.

Speaking in a post-match press conference as reported by Football.London, Potter expressed his satisfaction with Chilwell’s progress and highlighted the hard work that has gone into getting him back to his best. The manager also noted that players ideally require several weeks of pre-season training to build up their fitness levels, but Chilwell has had to do it in the Premier League due to the team’s lack of preparation.

“That’s sort of what I’ve been talking about for a while. When you’re not winning, it doesn’t matter, but the likes of Ben, Wesley [Fofana], Ruben [Loftus-Cheek], Reece [James], and Raheem are all getting minutes in the Premier League. In an ideal world, you’d build that up in pre-season and have five or six weeks of build-up on the pitch”

Chilwell’s resurgence is a significant boost for Chelsea, who have been struggling to achieve consistent results since the beginning of the year. His impressive form, which has earned him the status of one of the most highly-rated left-backs in the Premier League, has not gone unnoticed, particularly given Marc Cucurella’s inability to convince during his period of absence.

Potter added that Chilwell has grown stronger with every passing week and affected the game positively during their 1-0 victory against Leeds United.

“We’ve not been able to do that so they have had to do it in the Premier League. Ben has got stronger and stronger as the weeks have gone on and today I thought he affected the game in a really good way and contributed a lot to our first-half performance.”

The left-back’s attacking prowess and defensive solidity make him a valuable asset to the team, and his return to form bodes well for Chelsea’s future prospects.

The Blues secured a much-needed three points against Leeds United in a game that was not their best performance but nevertheless yielded the desired result.

Chelsea fans can rest assured that Chilwell’s renewed physical fitness is a welcome relief, and his contribution to the team’s fortunes is set to grow as the season progresses.
