Aston Villa’s hopes in the upcoming FA Cup replay against Chelsea have taken a hit as manager Unai Emery confirmed that defender Ezri Konsa will be sidelined due to injury.

The 26-year-old sustained a knee problem during Villa’s commanding 5-0 victory over Sheffield United, forcing an early exit from the game. Emery disclosed the news during his pre-match press conference, stating, ‘He is injured.’ According to Emery, Konsa’s absence is expected to last ‘three or four weeks’ owing to a knee sprain.

“He has a knee sprain and he is going to be not available for three or four weeks, more or less.” Emery said.

Konsa’s unavailability is a significant blow for Villa, given his pivotal role in the team this season. The defender has featured prominently, making 33 appearances and accumulating 2823 minutes of playing time. In addition to Konsa, Emery will also be without the services of Tyrone Mings and Lucas Digne for the crucial clash against Chelsea.

However, there is some positive news for Villa, as Emery confirmed that Pau Torres will return from injury and be included in the squad. Despite the setback, Villa remain favorites to advance to the next round of the cup. Nonetheless, Konsa’s absence will undoubtedly impact their chances against a formidable Chelsea side.
