Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone, according to respected journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool have had a disappointing Premier League season. They are currently seventh in the table and face a difficult task in qualifying for the Champions League. Their midfield has been a major source of concern, but it does not appear that they will address the issue during the current transfer window.

Instead, they could postpone large purchases until the summer. According to Romano, Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is manager Jurgen Klopp’s top priority, but Liverpool is also aware of Kone’s situation. Gladbach will most likely sell the 21-year-old at the end of the season.

Liverpool’s priority this summer will be to sign Bellingham from Dortmund, but they may also pursue Kone. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Naby Keita are currently in the final six months of their contracts and could leave on free transfers.

With his creative presence from the center of the field, Bellingham would be an excellent signing for Liverpool, but the club could also sign Kone, a defensive midfielder. The youngster is strong in tackling and distribution, and he has also impressed with his dribbling in the opposing half.

He is currently valued at £22 million by Transfermarkt. Gladbach, on the other hand, will be looking for a much higher transfer fee because they may be in a bidding war for his signature. Aside from Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Kone.

It remains to be seen whether they will be able to sign both players during the summer transfer window. Liverpool may need Champions League football to entice Bellingham to stay, or he may decide to move elsewhere. The club still has a lot of work to do if they want to finish in the top four this season.

They already trail fourth-placed Manchester United by four points, despite having played a game more. Liverpool can also qualify for the premier European club competition by winning it this season, but they will face a huge challenge in the round of 16 phase in the form of Real Madrid.
