Louis van Gaal has resisted the temptation to reveal how he intends to stop Lionel Messi when both the Netherlands and Argentina meet in the Qatar World Cup.

The Netherlands will face Argentina in the quarter-final of the 2022 Qatar World Cup after both countries successfully got past the round of 16.

The Dutch side recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over the USA while Argentina managed a tight 2-1 win over Australia and both teams will come up against each other in order to book a place in the last four.

Lionel Messi is obviously one of the best performers in the ongoing World Cup, having scored three times and provided one assist in four appearances.

The PSG forward stands tall as a threat for the Dutch side but Louis van Gaal has suggested he has plans on stopping the 35-year-old forward, who he described as a the ‘most’ dangerous creative player.

When asked how he intends to stop Messi, Van Gaal said: “You will see on Friday. I won’t tell you.”

The former Manchester United boss added, when asked if Messi’s availability is a potential problem for the Netherlands: Messi is the most dangerous creative player, he is able to create a lot and to score goals himself. But when they lose the ball he doesn’t participate much, this gives us chances.”
