Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has hailed Lionel Messi as the greatest football ever.
Lisandro Martinez has thanked Lionel Messi for helping Argentina win the 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup and hailed him as the greatest footballer in history.
Messi finished as the best player of the competition after he scored seven goals, including a brace against France in the World Cup final.
The PSG forward is widely touted as the greatest player of all time and his compatriot, Martinez, has followed suit.
Speaking to Instagram, the Manchester United defender said: “On and off the pitch an example for us all. Thank you Leo, for being our leader towards this great dream we achieved. Simply the greatest footballer in history!!”
The former Ajax defender has not returned to Manchester, confirmed by Erik ten Hag, as he’s still celebrating the World Cup success in Argentina.
For this reason, he’s increasingly likely to miss Man United’s Premier League game against Nottingham Forest next week.
Erik ten Hag said: “He [Martinez] is still celebrating now in Buenos Aires now, going around in the touring car!
“Going around in Buenos Aires and I can understand it, it is very emotional when you achieve this World Cup success in your country.
“It’s magnificent, it [winning the World Cup] is the highest that you can achieve [in football]. Licha also has to understand that on December 27, the Premier League is back.”
