The Englishman made his loan team debut on Saturday against Norwich City. The team under the management of Mark Robins lost 4-2, but Wilson-Esbrand, who was thrilled to make his debut, had a lot to say about the change.

Josh Wilson-Esbrand, a loanee from Manchester City to Coventry City, explained that getting playing time with his loan team is crucial for him because he wants to develop both physically and mentally while there.

Despite making an impression for the Blues during preseason, the 20-year-old fullback struggled to get playing time as Rico Lewis quickly ascended to the first team. Wilson-Esbrand joined Coventry, who are currently 15th in the Championship, on loan from City in January. He said:

“It is going to be good for me to get minutes here and in the Championship, it is underestimated by many people but I know it is a very hard league. It will be great to constantly be playing men’s football week-in week-out and getting used to the competitive nature of the league. Not just on the pitch, it will do me good physically and mentally.”

“It was good to get some minutes in the legs. I have just come back from some minor niggles and injuries this last week, so it is good to get some running in the legs and good to see the stadium and fans. The atmosphere is amazing and even the fans that are here are great. You would not think the stadium is not full. It is very loud, and they get behind the players well. I cannot wait to get back out there.” he added.

Wilson-Esbrand joined the team on January 10th, but due to an injury battle, he only made his debut this past weekend. The Championship match between the Sky Blues and Huddersfield Town will give Wilson-Esbrand the chance to get more playing time.
