Newcastle are interested in signing Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips but the Englishman is committed to staying with the Pep Guardiola led side and fight for his spot there.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has emerged as a transfer target for Newcastle United ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window. However, it appears that the 27-year-old is determined to stay at the Etihad and fight for his place in the squad.

As reported by  The Telegraph  that Newcastle have already been informed of Phillips’ decision, which comes as an early setback for manager Eddie Howe as he seeks to reinforce the midfield for the demanding campaign ahead.

Phillips, who joined Manchester City from Leeds United just last summer, remains committed to his current club despite a challenging season. The England international has faced limited playing time and setbacks, yet he is drawing inspiration from Jack Grealish’s successful debut season at City. Phillips hopes to turn his own fortunes around and make a significant impact throughout the upcoming 2023/24 campaign.

While Newcastle expressed their interest in acquiring Phillips, it is worth noting that several other Premier League clubs have also enquired about the talented midfielder’s services, highlighting his reputation and appeal in the transfer market.

It is commendable to see the former Leeds star’s determination to stay and fight for his place at Manchester City. However, breaking into the starting XI will undoubtedly prove challenging, given the exceptional performances of players like Rodri and John Stones in the pivotal positions this season.

A move to Newcastle would have undoubtedly been an exciting prospect for Phillips, but he remains focused on his current club for now. Perhaps, a year down the line, the opportunity may still arise, or other clubs could show interest in securing the services of this promising England international—unless he endures a disastrous upcoming campaign, which seems highly unlikely.
