Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo this summer, impressed by the Japanese winger’s stellar performances and 18 goal contributions in the past two seasons.

The talented Japanese international, who has established himself as one of La Liga’s promising young wingers, has been in impressive form since his departure from Real Madrid in 2022.

Kubo’s noteworthy performance in the previous season included 44 appearances, contributing significantly with nine goals and nine assists.

In the current season, he has continued his impressive run with six goals and four assists in 25 games, showcasing consistent high-level play.

The Red Devils are said to have taken notice of Kubo’s development and are contemplating a summer signing, potentially activating his reported £51 million release clause. However, the 22-year-old winger has expressed a strong desire to stay with the Basque team for the upcoming season, making it challenging for Manchester United to sway his decision.

Antony, who joined Manchester United from Ajax for £85 million in 2022, has struggled to establish his value, contributing only 13 goals in 67 games. In contrast, Kubo has been involved in twice as many goal contributions (28) during the same period. Should Antony decide to leave, Manchester United might consider pursuing Kubo as his potential replacement.

Kubo’s versatility, being able to play on the right flank or in the front two, adds an extra layer of appeal for the Red Devils. However, the outcome of United’s efforts to convince him to join remains uncertain, and Antony’s departure could potentially play a crucial role. Manchester United is reportedly demanding at least £50 million for Antony.

Adding to the intrigue, Liverpool has also expressed interest in Kubo, with Jurgen Klopp seeing him as a long-term successor to Mo Salah. The German manager has reportedly communicated his desire to the club’s board, adding another dimension to the potential transfer saga.
