Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided the latest update on Granit Xhaka after the midfielder was forced off early in the game against Wolves on Saturday night.

The Switzerland international signified to to be taken off 16 minutes into the game after he confirmed within himself that he’s feeling too well to continue.

Xhaka’s early substitution gave rise to panic among the Arsenal and Switzerland fans, with the World Cup at the corner, but Arteta has confirmed that the midfielder only had stomach issues, to which he couldn’t risk continue playing against the Wanderers.

Arteta responded by replacing him with Fabio Vieira and his tactical move paid off when the midfielder provided the assist to Martin Odegaard’s first goal, which was the opener in the second half.

Speaking about Granit Xhaka’s substitution, Mikel Arteta told Arsenal’s official website: “He’s fine, he wasn’t feeling good and for Granit [Xhaka] to put his hand up and say: ‘I need to come off’. He wasn’t feeling good at all.

“We had a few boys with some tummy issues and obviously we cannot change three or four in the first half, but I’m delighted that we adapted to those circumstances and we managed to win the game.”

The stomach issues aren’t expected to prevent Granit Xhaka from going to the World Cup with the Switzerland national team, which is a relieve for the Swiss.

Arsenal went on to win the game 2-0 at the Molinuex Stadium to go five points clear of Manchester City at the summit after City succumbed to a 2-1 loss against Brentford at the Etihad.
