Pep Guardiola comments on Chelsea’s big January spending.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has voiced his opinions on Chelsea’s recent transfer window activity, casting a shadow on the West London club’s lavish spending spree.
The Blues splurged over £300 million in January, attracting worldwide attention with their star-studded signings, which included the British record-breaking acquisition of Enzo Fernandez for £107 million.
Since Todd Boehly’s consortium took control of Chelsea last May, the team has spent a total of £550 million on transfers.
Guardiola acknowledged the impact of Chelsea’s transfers, but refrained from commenting on their business. He stated, “I understand the reaction if a club like Manchester City were to spend like Chelsea have, but that’s not my concern. The transfer market is exciting, but I don’t forget the clubs who once wrote a letter calling for us to be expelled from the Champions League.”
Manchester City will face Antonio Conte’s Tottenham at the White Hart Lane on Sunday, 5th of February, while Chelsea will host Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Friday, 3rd of February.
The transfer window may be over, but the repercussions of Chelsea’s spending are sure to be a hot topic in the days leading up to these high-stakes fixtures.
