Real Madrid’s Copa Del Rey campaign has been dealt a major blow with the news that left-back Ferland Mendy could be out for a month with a hamstring injury. The Frenchman had to be substituted at half-time during Los Blancos’ 3-1 quarter-final victory over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, with Eduardo Camavinga coming on in his place.

The injury to Mendy is a significant setback for coach Carlo Ancelotti, who is already without two of his key full-backs. Dani Carvajal has been out of action since the turn of the year with a muscle problem, while Lucas Vazquez and David Alaba are also currently nursing injuries.

This has left Ancelotti with limited options in the full-back department, with Camavinga filling in at left-back against Atletico Madrid. The young midfielder put in a solid performance in his new position, but Mendy’s injury has raised questions about whether Real Madrid will look to bring in a new left-back during the ongoing January transfer window.

The injury could not have come at a worse time for Real Madrid, as they chase silverware on multiple fronts this season. The club will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Mendy, as they look to maintain their position at the top of La Liga and progress in the Copa Del Rey and the Champions League.

It’s a real shame for Mendy to suffer this injury, as he has been in great form this season and has established himself as a key player for Real Madrid.

The club will now have to find a way to cope without him and will likely have to rely on the depth of their squad to fill the void left by the French defender. It will be interesting to see how Ancelotti chooses to fill this gap in the coming weeks.
