Head coach of the England women’s national team Sarina Wiegman commented on her team’s first match at the home Euros.
It was an unbelievable experience. To play at Old Trafford with 70,000 fans clamoring and supporting us was great.
We had some very dangerous moments in the game, we should have scored more, but we stood our ground in the difficult moments, which is good too. We had a few phases during the game. We had a poor start, then we took control of the game and pushed the Austrians back to their half.
We were too rushed in the last third of the match. We created a lot of chances, but the final decisions in them were not right. But most importantly, we scored one goal, left the gate dry, and earned three points,” Sky Sports quoted Wiegman as saying.
It must be recalled that yesterday, on July 6, in the opening match of the European championship England defeated Austria 1-0. Beth Mead forward scored.
