Former F1 driver Mark Zurer believes that despite his #2 status at Red Bull, Sergio Perez has a chance to win the title.
“If Perez continues in the same vein and earns points in every race, it would be ideal for him. But you still need to look at the number of wins – and it shows that Max Verstappen is still the obvious number one Red Bull.
However, it is very important the number of derailments. After all, when you go off the track, the other pilot often gains a lot more points compared to you. And at the end of the year, it can be a key difference. At the end of the day, it’s the stoppages that cause the biggest problems, because you can lose 18 to 25 points each time. So yes, Perez is a championship contender,” said Zurer.
