Argentina v Chile. Gabriele Marcotti’s prediction
It’s been a really bumpy start for Juan Antonio Pizzi after replacing the legendary Jorge Sampaoli, with recent friendly losses to Jamaica and Mexico. What’s more, while Pizzi is a good manager, his view of football diverges from that of Sampaoli (and, before that, Bielsa). There are still growing pains and, while Chile are the defending Copa America champions, the mood is different.
As for Argentina, with Lionel Messi still touch and go, there’s plenty of uncertainty and even if he does play, he won’t be at his best. Still, I think Argentina have enough about them to get the better of this Chile side, and their results of late would suggest this is the case. This could also be one where we see a few goals. Argentina will attack and you’d expect them to create plenty, while Chile won’t be without chances of their own, particularly on the counter. Go for over 2.5 goals at 2.25 — the lack of scoring thus far has, I think, depressed prices a bit but that should not be the case in this game.
