South Korea:

South Korea has taken part in 11 World Cups. They have not missed out on the last ten. Their record is far more modest – fourth place in the 2002 World Cup.

The Asian Tigers qualified for the World Cup with relative ease, finishing second in their zone final group, only to be outclassed by Iran, but well ahead of their pursuers.

South Korea got off to a (0-0) start against Uruguay, lost (2-3) to Ghana in the second leg and then cruised to a hard-fought win against Portugal (2-1) in the final group match.

With four points, the Koreans finished second in their group, better than the Uruguayans – who might have been better off had they scored against the Ghanaians in the other half.
