Having retained their Copa America title in the summer of 2016, Chile will be looking to win silverware for the third year in a row in Russia this month, and their quest begins against African opposition in Cameroon on Sunday evening. In facing the Cameroonians first up, it would appear as though Alexis Sánchez and co. have an excellent chance to start things on the right foot.

In recent times, Cameroon are a team who’ve struggled to impose themselves on matches against both South American and European teams and, having been easily beaten by Columbia in a friendly less than a week ago, similar problems could arise here. The bet that stands out ahead of this one is ‘Chile to Win & Over 2.5 Goals’.

Although their recent form might be patchy, there can be no denying that this Chilean side is a force to be reckoned with on their day; with the likes of Alexis Sánchez and Arturo Vidal in their ranks, they possess more than enough quality to beat almost any opposition, let alone one who’re often easily toppled. Juan Antonio Pizzi’s side are a team who like to get on the front foot and are certainly capable of scoring goals, especially against a less than sturdy opposition back-line such as Cameroon’s.

A recent 3-2 loss against Romania, doesn’t look like the ideal warm up ahead of a tournament such as this, although it’s worth noting that Chile began that game well before taking a deserved 2-0 lead and probably only let things slip as a result of having a man sent off after 33 minutes. If they can manage to keep 11 men on the pitch, it’s hard to see a repeat of that defeat occurring here. A recent 3-0 win over African opposition (Burkina Faso), where Chile cruised from start to finish, bodes well as does the fact that five of their last seven wins have seen an ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ bet land.

Cameroon’s defence, or lack there of, is likely to be the main catalyst here and it’s thought that a rear-guard which was blown away by Columbia last week is going to encounter serious problems when trying to contain this Chile side. What’s more, Cameroon have lost each of their last six matches against either European or South American opposition, all of which saw at least three match goals go in.

Having won back-to-back Copa America’s, Chile’s quality is there for all to see and they’re expected to have too much in the locker for a Cameroon side who’re fancied to be some way below the level required at this tournament. ‘Chile to Win & Over 2.5 Goals’ looks a standout bet here at 8/5.
