In-form League One side Fleetwood Town host out-of-sorts Championship side Bristol City in this FA Cup 3rd round replay after a 0-0 draw in the initial tie.

Fleetwood are one of the most in-form sides in England at the moment having extended their 13-match unbeaten run by beating Bristol Rovers at the weekend, lifting Uwe Rosler’s side into the play-off places.

The defence has certainly been the bedrock to The Trawlermen’s relative success in recent times having kept four clean sheets in their last five matches in all competitions whilst their overall record of 29 goals conceded in just 26 league matches is better than current league leaders Sheffield United.

Whilst they did score three against fellow play-off hopefuls Bristol Rovers on Saturday, goals have not been in great supply for Fleetwood with only two goals in the four matches prior to that victory. However, the fact they do not concede many means that just one or two goals is generally enough for them to claim maximum points.

The Trawlermen’s home form has been absolutely magnificent having not lost a match at Highbury Stadium in ten matches – a record stretching back to October 15th.

After looking like they could really threaten the Championship play-off places at the start of the season, Bristol City have had an unbelievable spiral down the league having lost ten of their last eleven league matches. Now, instead of looking at the top six, they are dangerously close to the relegation zone and are only three points off safety.

Goals have certainly not been the problem for Lee Johnson’s side as they have scored in eight of their last nine league matches. However, defensively they are an absolute shambles having conceded an incredible 13 in their previous five Championship matches.

Away form has also been a nightmare for the Robins having not won away from Ashton Gate in any competition since 24th September, losing seven of the eight games since that 4-0 victory against Fulham.

Although Bristol City go to a lower division side in the form of Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night, I am surprised that the bookmakers have made them favourites given the contrasting form of the two teams. The aforementioned defensive solidity makes the home side tough to break down, while they’re effective on the counter. Considering this, along with the fact that Bristol City could well be focusing largely on their Championship exploits, and it’s hard to ignore the hosts, especially at such a good price. With this in mind, backing a Fleetwood Town win at 5/2 is the way to go.
