The prize for winning for both of these non-league sides is a trip to Championship side Brentford. National League North side Halifax managed to take a 3-3 draw away from National League Eastleigh in the original fixture.

Halifax are currently five points off the play-off spots in the National League North with two games in hand having won five of their last seven in the league. However, when we look at their record in all competitions it is a complete contrast with no wins in their last five, including three losses. The number of competitions that Halifax are in is clearly taking its toll on The Shaymen.

Billy Heath’s team do not have any problems going forward and they have scored in all but two of their 27 matches in all competitions this season whilst they are also the third highest scorers in their division so far this campaign. Their problems are certainly at the back as proved by their last few matches with just two clean sheets in their last 11 games.

Although Eastleigh are the higher ranked team, Halifax will believe their good home record counts for a lot going into Tuesday night having dropped points on just three occasions in their nine home league matches at The Shay Stadium.

Eastleigh are on a bad run at the moment with no wins in four and three losses during that period in all competitions. However, unlike Tuesday’s opponents Halifax, Eastleigh are having a pretty poor time in the league at the moment having suffered back to back losses, winning just one match in their last six National League outings.

Similarly to Halifax, The Spitfires tend to score a high number of goals but also have a bad habit of conceding. They have found the back of the net an impressive 34 goals in just league matches this season, but then have been unable to capitalise on that as they have conceded 18 in their last ten matches in all competitions which is a worryingly large average of 1.8 per game.

New manager Martin Allen has only had one game so far but has been unable to revive his team’s fortunes as they lost 2-0 to lower division to Harlow Town in the FA Trophy. This is a vital match for the former Barnet manager to try and ensure he makes a good start in his new job.

With this match between two sides who are more similar in calibre than you might imagine – despite the fact that Eastleigh are in the higher league – calling the winner is perhaps too a difficult a task.

Instead playing the goals market is the way to go. ‘Over 3.5 Goals’, at 2/1, makes for a good bet ahead of this match. As explained earlier, Halifax matches tend to involve a high number of goals whilst, historically, Martin Allen teams tend to score a lot of goals. Furthermore, with a trip to Brentford up for grabs, neither side will want to leave anything on the pitch and I expect them to both go hell for leather – much as they did in the 3-3 draw when meeting previously.
