12:55 Wincanton – Miracle Cure @ 7/2

Having won at 5/1 when tipped up back in November, the Venetia Williams trained Miracle Cure is the selection for a second time this season.

The eight-year-old has performed with real credit on his three starts this season, including when an easy winner over C&D less than two months ago, and it looks as though it’s just a matter of time before he goes in again.

Having overcome a lengthy absence to score in fine style over C&D in November, the gelding has gone on to run two encouraging races. His 2nd at Taunton on his penultimate start is encouraging form, while he once again travelled strongly last time out before probably failing to fully see out the extra distance having been upped to 2m 4f. Back down to 2m here, it would appear that he’s been found another decent opportunity by his shrewd handler.

Venetia Williams is a trainer with a reasonable strike rate at Wincanton (14%), while she’s also struck up a fairly decent partnership with jockey Robert Dunne.

There are several question marks surrounding the others in this race and it has to be said that Miracle Cure is the one with solid form in the book. Considering just how taking his performance was when winning at this venue not that long ago, Williams’ gelding is definitely one to keep on side and is worth being with here. After all, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if he went off a good bit shorter than the 7/2 quoted in the early betting.

15:15 Wincanton – Fortunate George @ 9/1 (each-way)

The 15:15 Wincanton is an interesting contest where there are several who could potentially go well, but the one who catches the eye is Emma Lavelle’s Fortunate George.

This C&D winner hasn’t really done much yet this term, although last time out he stepped on up a poor reappearance and it would be no surprise if, now tackling his third race of the campaign, we saw another improved performance here.

Having won a Class 3, albeit one that was weaker in terms of depth, with plenty of ease over C&D back in April, Fortunate George ticks plenty of boxes here. He looked very much at home when winning at the track in similar conditions, while his trainer, who boasts a 16% strike rate at the course, certainly knows how to get one home around here, as does jockey Daryl Jacob (27% strike rate at this venue and a 22% strike rate when riding for Emma Lavelle).

With two runs now under his belt, Fortunate George should be primed and ready to go in a race of this nature. With this in mind, it would be no surprise if he easily surpasses the level achieved so far this season and runs a big race. At odds of 9/1, he’s worth supporting each-way.
