This FA Cup match sees two teams who are towards the top of their respective leagues – and so perhaps have other priorities – go head-to-head as Huddersfield Town host Manchester City at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Huddersfield look like that one team you always see in the Championship that make a late break for promotion and are currently on a fantastic run having won their last five league matches. This places the Terriers in 3rd, just four points off the automatic promotion spots and ten points ahead of 7th.

Manager David Wagner has brought a new philosophy to Huddersfield and has revolutionised the way his team play with a high-energy and attacking style. Wagner’s men have certainly relied on outscoring their opponents in their last few matches and, whilst they have scored an impressive 10 in their last four league matches, they have not managed to keep a clean sheet in any of those four outings.

The John Smith’s Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for the Terriers and they have the third-best away record in the division having taken 35 points from just 15 games. Furthermore, they have not lost on home soil in any competition since 28th November 2016.

After a bit of a blip earlier on in the season, Manchester City are now back on track with four consecutive wins in all competitions, boosting them up to second in the table. They probably will not win the title due to the large gap of eight points between them and Chelsea but they look like they should be firmly in the top four come the end of the campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s side are scintillating going forward and have found the back of the net an incredible 51 times in just 25 Premier League games this season. However, what will please City fans more right now is that the defence is starting to look more sound with three clean sheets in their last four matches.

Strangely, City have been better on their travels this season than they have at home this season with 27 points from 13 away matches compared to just 25 from 12 at the Etihad. Furthermore, they have scored nine and conceded zero in their last three away games.

With a hugely important Champions League match against Monaco coming just days after this FA Cup match at Huddersfield, Guardiola will likely rotate his line-up which of course will give Huddersfield even more confidence.

Having said that, I imagine City will still come out on top here but I expect there to be goals for both sides. It is worth noting that Huddersfield have scored in 93% and conceded in 80% of their home league matches this season whilst 72% of City’s matches have seen ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ go in. With this in mind, ‘Manchester City to Win & Both Teams to Score’, at 15/8, looks good.
