This match is only really relevant for one team as Inverness are still fighting for their top flight lives whilst Motherwell are guaranteed safety for another season.

Inverness have managed to take their survival fight to the final day of the season thanks to a 2-0 win away at Dundee in midweek. Unfortunately though, it is out of their own hands and they have to hope Hamilton Academical slip up to give themselves any chance of staying up. Interestingly, the fact that Inverness know they have to win here could do them a favour as they do not need to focus on anything but the result.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of Inverness’s win against Dundee was the fact they kept a clean sheet – their first in 15 games. Caley Thistle’s goal-scoring record has not actually been that terrible this season with 41 goals scored, finding the back of the net in each of their last three. Hopefully for Inverness, they can bring a similarly good defensive performance into this final match. However, with the pressure now so intense in this last game, that could hinder them.

Richie Foran’s men will actually be quite confident going into this final game as they won their most recent home match and have only lost one of their last four at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. Having said that, they have only kept one clean sheet in the league on home soil all season.

Motherwell have been on a decent run of late with two wins from their last two meaning they have pulled themselves well away from not only the automatic relegation spot but also the relegation play-off spot. Will that cause them to switch off on Saturday?

Much like Inverness, Well’s problem has been at the back and their Goals Against record of 66 in 37 is the second-worst in the division – only Saturday’s opponents Inverness have a worse record. Additionally, they have kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches and even that came against Hamilton Academical – the league’s lowest scorers. Offensively, things have actually been pretty good, averaging two goals per game in their last five outings.

The Steelmen have not been great on the road recently with five losses in their last nine matches. Having said that, their away record against the lesser sides in the division has been pretty decent since the turn of the year having won all three of their games against sides in the bottom six since the start of 2017.

For Inverness, the pressure on this match could go one of two ways. They will either use it to their advantage and overcome an unmotivated Motherwell side or they will crumble under it. Add in the fact that Motherwell have a good away record against the lower sides and this match becomes even harder to predict. However, given the fact that both of these sides are poor at the back and Inverness may leave themselves a bit exposed knowing they have to win, an open game is expected. ‘Both Teams to Score’ is the way to go.
