Jelena Ostapenko – Carla Suarez Navarro. Anna Chakvetadze’s prediction
Jelena Ostapenko got her place in the final match because of the refusal of Andrea Petkovic. But in the semifinal, Ostapenko showed that she’s worth this final. She was losing the first set, but won 7:5. Then she got a break point at the beginning of the second set, and Petkovic pulled out. Ostapenko shows her character, skills and a sharp shape. But she has a little chance to defeat Carla Suarez Navarro who is in a good shape too. Suarez Navarro lost only two games to Agnieszka Radwanska. And all her games were won in two sets. She’s improving during all the tournament. By the way, last year Ostapenko have got a win against Suarez Navarro 6:2, 6:0. But that was a weak period of Carla’s career, we can’t take this result so seriously. Now we have a different story.
I think that the Spaniard can win the final game, but it will be not a pleasure cruise for her. Ostapenko is on fire now and she feels confident. And she remembers her victory against Suarez Navarro. So Carla should have some trouble here. She is also playing in pairs with a Friday game, and the final is on Saturday. So I expect more than 21 games here.
