Newport County v Wycombe Wanderers Betting Tips: Plenty of goals at Rodney Parade

20:51, 08 sep 2017

These two sides will be relatively happy with the season so far as they are both sitting inside the playoff places after five games.

Although they find themselves up in seventh, Newport have dipped in their last couple of outings with two losses in their last two matches in all competitions.

Perhaps the most concerning part about those defeats is that the Exiles failed to score in either of them. This is particularly disappointing when you consider the fact that they found the back of the net four times against Chesterfield a fortnight ago. Newport

Newport were poor at the back last season and ended up conceding 73 goals in their 46 league games – which almost saw them relegated. Unfortunately for them, these bad defensive habits have been sneaking back into their recent performances with no clean sheets in their last four matches in all competitions.

Despite those rather gloomy statistics, one thing that will give Mike Flynn’s men hope is their home form which has seen them win every match since 21st March, keeping clean sheets in more than half of those outings. Furthermore, Newport found the back of the net four times in their first home game of this 2017/18 campaign.

Wycombe looked set for a playoff place for the majority of last season but eventually fell away and finished ninth. However, they have bounced back from that disappointment this term and they are currently only outside of the automatic promotion spots on Goal Difference.

Chairboys’ matches have seen a plethora of goals this season with 14 goals scored and 18 conceded. Additionally, all but one of Wycombe’s seven matches in all competitions this season have contained over 2.5 goals.

Whilst Newport boast a good home record, they should be wary of Wycombe’s decent away record going into this match. Gareth Ainsworth’s side have not lost a competitive match on their travels since 21st February, winning more than 66% of those games.

Both of these teams have demonstrated that they are more than capable of both scoring and conceding goals this season. Therefore, I am expecting another goal-filled encounter here. Over 2.5 Goals Total is reasonably well-priced at 47/50.
