Djokovic had a good playing practice at the Laver Cup last week, where he calmly outplayed Tiafoe, but lost to Auger Aliassime. As it turned out after the game with Felix, Novak had a wrist problem. It was because of this discomfort that he was unable to play at his best against Felix. Ahead of the start of the tournament in Tel Aviv, Djokovic admitted that the hand no longer bothers him.
Djokovic is the clear favourite in this match, so he shouldn’t have too much trouble getting past Andujar, who is generally only able to play on clay. We believe that the match won’t last long.
Last week Novak played in the Laver Cup. It was the last tournament of Roger Federer’s career.
Djokovic had two singles matches, which he considered part of his preparation for the Tel Aviv tournament. With the Serb having to miss the North American series due to a lack of a coronavirus vaccination, the two games in London really mattered to him.
In the first match, Novak defeated Frances Tiafoe (6-1, 6-3). Here one could really see who is really the best player in the world.
The next day, Djokovic lost to Felix Auger Aliassime. As it turned out later, he had wrist pain. According to the former world #1, this problem does not bother him now.
Djokovic has nine wins in his previous ten matches.
Andujar, meanwhile, started the Tel Aviv tournament with a win over Thiago Monteiro (7-6, 6-1). The Brazilian fought back in the first set, surviving to a tie-break before taking just one game in the second set.
This was only Pablo’s third win on the ATP main draw level in the last six months. He has been playing mostly Challengers lately and is not been very successful.
Interestingly though, Pablo made it two rounds at the Australian Open earlier this year.
Andujar has suffered eight defeats in his last ten indoor hard-court meetings.
Djokovic has played only two tie-breaks in his last five matches. We offer to bet on “Tie-Break – No”.
