Phoenix Suns hoping to continue where they left off
After toppling the reigning champions the Lakers in the first round, the Phoenix Suns will face another tough opponent in the Denver Nuggets. The Suns’ point guard Devin Booker made all the headlines in the first round averaging 29.7 points in the series against the Lakers. Booker scored his best tally ever in a game with 47 points in game six.
Coach Monty Williams’ Suns were trailing by 2-1 against the Lakers with Chris Paul’s shoulder injury concerns. But Phoenix won the next three matches as Paul held off his injury and contributed to Booker’s heroics with some great performances himself using his skill and experience to aid his team against a star-studded Laker team.
Denver Nuggets looking for their second conference finals in a row
Despite having injury problems of their own, the Nuggets scraped through the Portland series in round one and if they make it to the conference finals, it will be their first back-to-back finals of the conference since 1975 and 1976. Nikola Jokic has been the focal point of coach Michael Malone’s team averaging 33 points and 10.5 rebounds per game
The Nuggets beat the Blazers despite Damian Lillards’ unbelievable performances. Now they face a similar player in Devin Booker and if they can neutralize him, they will have a great chance of advancing to the conference finals. With 37.7% shooting from the arc of three points in the playoffs, Denver might need more efficiency in that area if they want to trouble phoenix.
Key Points
- Phoenix is averaging 115.3 points per game in the playoffs
- Denver is averaging 115.1 points per game in the playoffs
- The Suns are making on average of 49% of their field goals
- The Nuggets are making on average 48.5% of their field goals
Phoenix Suns vs Denver Nuggets Prediction
The two key players’ form on both teams, Devin Booker and Nikola Jokic will decide the outcome of this series. Phoenix have their injury concerns and will rely on Booker in the offensive third.
If Denver finds a way to limit Booker’s scoring tally to under his average, they will have a chance in the series. As we saw in the 1st round, the Lakers couldn’t cope with Booker and they paid the price.
Meanwhile, Denver must vary their offensive options as they did in game six against Portland when Porter and Morris helped the Serb with 26 and 22 points respectively.
We think it will be a tough series. Phoenix will do their best to get off to a good start and we predict the Suns to win the first game.
