League leaders Plymouth Argyle welcome an in-form Wycombe side to Home Park on Boxing Day – a match that will be no easy task for the team who currently head affairs in England’s fourth tier.

There’s no doubt that Plymouth have been one of the best sides in the division this season, they’ve continually found ways to win matches and are deserving of their lofty position. Having said this, they haven’t exactly blown teams away of late, far from it. In fact, it could be said that they were a tad lucky to win last time out in the league, while they needed extra time to get the better of Newport in the FA cup during the week. A visit from a Wycombe side who’re making real inroads into the top-seven is likely to prove a real test.

Plymouth might top the table currently, but there’s absolutely no doubt that Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe are the form team in League Two right now. The visitors have won eight on the bounce (all-competitions), scoring plenty of goals and defending well in the process. At this moment in time they’re probably the team you don’t want to be facing, especially if you’re not at the very top of your game.

From a betting point of view, some might find it hard to oppose Plymouth, after all, it’s not often you can go against the pace-setters, but this time they’re not the team to be with. It’s the Buckinghamshire club who’re fancied to continue their impressive form and, at odds of 7/5, ‘Wycombe Draw No Bet’ is the best bet ahead of this one.

Wycombe’s overall away record this season might not be that impressive, but they’ve certainly turned a corner of late and come into this match unbeaten in their last eight away matches (all-competitions), six of which they’ve won (the last six). Last time out on the road, they made light-work of brushing aside Notts County, while they were equally impressive both when beating Millwall in the EFL Trophy and when cruising to a 5-0 victory over Chesterfield in the FA Cup – two opponents who reside in the division above.

Perhaps the greatest quality of this current Wycombe side is their ability to keep things tight at the back. The Chairboys have kept four clean sheets in their last five overall, while they’ve managed to shutout their opponents in three of their last five on the road. Additionally, their clean sheet tally of eight is the second highest in the division.

The problem for a lot of teams who excel when it comes to defending is that they often lack firepower at the other end and this may have been true for Wycombe in the earlier parts of the campaign. However, with eight goals in their last five league matches, Monday’s visitors are currently thriving in front of goal. On top of this, they haven’t failed to score since losing to Barnet back in late October (12 matches ago).

As mentioned above, Plymouth might still be at the top of the pile in terms of league standings, but they’ve definitely showed signs of dropping off a tad of late. Neither of their recent two victories were the most convincing, while they’ve only managed to win two of their last five at home. Another factor that might come into play here is the fact that they were forced to play 120 minutes on Wednesday night and have thus had less time to prepare than their opponents who’ve enjoyed a full eight days without playing.

All things considered, it’s hard to argue that Wycombe have been the more impressive of these two sides lately and, at the prices, they are well worth backing on the ‘Draw No Bet’ market.
