They might be eight points behind runaway league leaders Juventus, but Roma are still enjoying a good season in Serie A. Luciano Spalleti’s team have looked strong throughout the campaign and are unlikely to be fazed by this upcoming home fixture against an Empoli side whose away form really has been dire.

When it comes to scoring goals in front of a home crowd, Roma are second to none and have been imperious in this sense over the course of the season. Empoli have been struggling on their travels, especially lately, and the hosts are fancied to fill their boots in this one. There are two bets that catch the eye and these are ‘Roma to Score Over 2.5 Goals’ and ‘Roma to Win -2 Handicap’.

As touched on above, Roma have been somewhat prolific at the Stadio Olimpico so far this season. With 40 goals to their name (in just 14 home matches) Spalleti’s side have had few problems in dismantling pretty much all comers. They’ve scored at least three goals on no less than ten occasions and have won by a three-goal-margin in six of those. Given the combination of searing pace and attacking quality at their disposal – Mohamed Salah, Diego Perotti and the 21-goal Edin Dzeko all spring to mind – it’s no surprise that Roma have often run rings around teams at home and that is exactly what they’re expected to do when taking on a poor Empoli side on Saturday night.

Playing on the road has yielded very little joy for Empoli so far this season. The visitors have won just one of their 14 away matches, losing nine of the other 13, scoring a measly six goals in the process. Defensively, although there are teams with worse records, Giovanni Martusciello’s side have been pretty poor in conceding 23 goals. While they may have often avoided a hammering, Roma offer significantly more going forward than a lot of teams in this division and thus the visitors are likely to be in for a rough ride.

Whatever way you look at this fixture, it’s simply impossible to make a case for the away side, such is the disparity in quality. Roma look a good bet to get the job done in convincing fashion and, therefore, the bets discussed above are two ways for punters to make this fixture pay.
